Step 9: Now pour in 2-3 gallons of clean water in the brine tank and add a quarter cup of household bleach to it. Stir the water and leave the bleach-water solution inside the tank for 15-20 minutes. Then scrub again the insides of a tank using a brush and chlorine water.

Step 10: Once the scrubbing is done, dump the water and rinse the tank again with clean water.

Step 11: Now put the brine tank back in its place and connect all the lines and hoses like before. Bring the system out of the “bypass mode” now.

Step 12: Now add around 5 gallons of clean water and the recommended amount of water softener salts in the brine tank.
